This article describes how to enable various language inputs on Windows 8 for typing diacritics or in other character sets.

Adding a new language

  1. Open your Windows 8 Control Panel
  2. Click the Clock, Region and Language control panel
  3. Click Add a language
  4. You'll see a list of currently enabled inputs, click the Add a Language button at the top of this list
  5. Select your language from the list and click Add

Now you should see the new language listed in the Language control panel and you'll have a keyboard/input method menu in your Task Bar in the lower right next to the clock.

Changing options on an existing input method

  1. Open your Windows 8 Control Panel
  2. Click the Clock, Region and Language control panel
  3. Click Change Input Methods
  4. Click Add An Input Method in the middle of the window
  5. Select the additional input method you want from the list and click Add
  6. Now you can remove any input methods you do not need, or keep them to be able to switch between them.
