OnBase - Importing and Separating a PDF

OnBase allows you to take a large PDF file, import it into OnBase, and split it up into separate TIF files (which have better functionality in OnBase).  Follow the steps below to accomplish this:

  1. Open OnBase
  2. Go to your multi-page PDF document
  3. Click on the File menu
  4. Click on Print
  5. Change the printer to the Hyland Software Virtual Printer
  6. Click on Print
  7. You should get an OnBase window pop up, asking you to index your PDF
  8. Choose the proper document type group
  9. Choose the proper document type
  10. Keep ‘Image File Format’ as your file formatting choice
  11. Click on Split
  12. You will see the document separation window, as shown to the right.
  13. Locate the first document, and identify the end of that first document.  Click on the last page.
  14. Click on the Break/Unbreak button to split the page out.
  15. The first document should be shown above the rest.  If you click on that first document, you can fill out the indexing information on the right side of the separation window.
  16. You can repeat this process until all of the document is split apart.  Make sure that you index all of the separated documents.
  17. When you are done, click on the Save and Close button :

For further information, please see the OnBase at Carleton home page.  Also, detailed instructions on the functionality of the Document Separation window can be found in the OnBase Client 100.pdf document.
